Providing Basics, Inc. (“Providing Basics”) is a not-for-profit corporation, whose mission is to PROVIDE the BASIC necessities to those in need, including: food, clothing and shelter. Our core values are compassion, kindness and humility.
Crystal F. Marshall, M.A. has consistently worked with those in need over the past eight years. She has been vital with leading groups to Lower Wacker Drive, South Suburban PADS homeless shelter, and throughout the community. After meeting a homeless couple in the South Suburbs of Chicago, Crystal disseminated information regarding local shelters and food pantries. This couple informed Crystal that they had been to the local shelter, but they were required to sleep separate and this caused them to be concerned for their safety. They also informed Crystal that they had been to the local food pantries, but they were unable to truly benefit from the food that was distributed because most of the food required cooking and they had no place to cook food. And last but not least, the couple informed Crystal that they also needed additional clothing to keep warm during the Chicago winter. This experience influenced the creation of Providing Basics. Everyone should at least have the basics!
Providing Basics’ current project is providing meal gift cards from local businesses to those in need. We plan to expand our impact by offering gift cards for clothing to those in need by 2018. Lastly, our long term goal is to provide temporary housing to those in need by 2019.
Providing Basics’ entire budget is funded by individual and business donations.
